Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Program
About Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive treatment integrating the principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and aspects of mindfulness based practice.
The MediBrain DBT Program is based on Marsha Linehan's™ well-researched treatment for borderline personality disorder, although participants do not necessarily have a diagnosis of borderline personality. The program is an outpatient program designed to assist in:- managing distress,
- improving interpersonal problems,
- reducing self-harming behaviours,
- stabilising extreme emotions
- generally improving day to day functioning and
- overall quality of life.
The program is made up of weekly Individual Therapy and a skills training group that has four modules of treatment.
The four modules are:
- Core Mindfulness Skills,
- Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills,
- Emotion Regulation Skills and
- Distress Tolerance Skills
each of which runs for eight weeks, one day per week. For participants requiring additional support, the program offers telephone coaching in between sessions as a means supporting the application of new skills when you need them most.
Handouts and other resources are provided to all participants. The program is fully supervised by a consultant psychiatrist who is involved in individual therapy and monitoring of patients on a weekly basis.
